On December 6th, 2016 we set time aside to honour and remember those women who have experienced violence in their lives. The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is an event that marks the anniversary of the 1989 murder of 14 women Engineering students at Montreal's Ecole Polytechnique. It also mourns the 1,200+ missing and murdered First Nations, Inuit, and Métis women as well as 5 women who were killed while they were members of the McMaster community. We will listen to a keynote by Cree activist, academic, and author Robyn Bourgeois followed by a talk by Six Nations attorney Bev Jacobs, a short drum song performance, and remarks from President Patrick Dean followed by the commemoration of a new stone memorial surrounded by White Pine trees to honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.
